Gregory Wellman: A Glittering Artist!
Gregory's unique paintings are vibrant in their color, tone and expression.
Born in Dorset,now living in Devon, Gregory has lived most of his life in the beautiful South West of England. He has been drawing and painting all his life and has had numerous solo exhibitions, gallery sales and commissions. His representational work in oils, watercolour and pastels has travelled across the world. Clients and collectors can now be found in London, Chicago, Beverly Hills, The Netherlands and Australia.
Over the years Gregory has accepted many commissions for animals and homes. Recently he has begun to specialise in wildlife and portraiture, usually in oils. His beautiful, vibrant paintings are often full of light and colour. He seeks to 'find a moment' that can be enjoyed for years to come. 'Stirring the emotions of people I may barely know with a painting is an enormous pleasure' he saysAs Gregory says: "I work in oils, acrylics and pastels. Often I am not sure which medium to use, so I simply ask myself the question, as if I'm sending it out to some message to a higher power — and an answer always comes back," he said. "After years of being commissioned to paint everything from landscapes to flowers and steam trains, I decided to concentrate on portraits and wildlife.
"I enjoy painting portraits from life but so often it is not possible. I work often and unashamedly using photographs, which are the starting point only. " I want my final image to look like a painting, with the quality of the medium clear to see." It is his skill in portraiture that has won Gregory international acclaim.

From his attic studio in Devon, Gregory Wellman paints wildlife and portraiture in oils, watercolour, pastels and acrylic. He has had work hung in London's Mall Galleries and by The South West Academy of Arts, and his international client base stretches from Hollywood to Brisbane. A recent trip to Kenya's Maasai Mara Game Reserve is inspiring perhaps his greatest work to date.
